UniSIG schools are schools that are awarded federal Unified School Improvement Grant (UniSIG) funds to support the 149 struggling schools in 29 Florida districts. McLaughlin Middle School and Fine Arts Academy is an UniSIG school. This year some of these funds will be used to help support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at McLaughlin. PBIS is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed. McLaughlin will use a portion of the grant to support PBIS and create a positive culture and school environment.
The state has teamed up with Safe Schools for Alex to increase awareness of what is happening at schools. A new School Safety Dashboard has been developed to analysis of school based incidents. This is an essential tool that every parent and school administrator should have at their fingertip. Click the link for the Safe Schools for Alex website to see how you can help keep school safe.
